What inspires me? : I find most of the my inspiration from my surroundings, specifically from the people who I decide to spend my time with and the events that are occurring around the world that people don't tend to acknowledge. I'm also very inspired by my own emotions and how I'm feeling. Inspiration might come from the way I react to and handle a situation, or how I cope with any personal mental strains.
My Concentration Concept : My concentration is based around how people who suffer from mental illness perceive it themselves. I think this concept is an important topic to address and bring attention to, especially now with mental illness playing a more prominent role in today's society. I think it is important to understand the inner workings of people's minds to be able to better help them when it comes time to. Technique : I typically like to start my art off by first delving into information on the mental illness the piece will focus on. I make sure to include key symptoms and reactions that the person might experience as result of the illness. While for the most part I use the internet to search for my information, sometimes I use personal experiences that either I myself have gone through or I listen to how others describe their and their loved ones' mental illnesses if they have any. I think it is important to get a direct account as well because it brings more realism to the situation behind the piece. Afterwards, I make a quick sketch and typically either go over in more detail with charcoal or transfer it to Photoshop and work from there. |
